Product Overview

The Laramie braid was adapted by Carol Goodwin and Shirley Berlin from a straw-plaiting braid and is not ‘traditional’ Kumihimo; however, you use the same tools and much of the same knowledge. The braid is very simple but quite effective and versatile. Although this tutorial shows the movements for the braid, the intent of it is to explain how to attach cords to create two braids off a single connection point.  There is also a YouTube video showing the braid movements available on my YouTube channel.

With the Laramie braid, you use a core which ‘floats’ around your disk as you braid but is not pulled into slots. This tutorial shows how to use 10 stands of S-Lon in three stations that will be braided to surround your core material. The ridge in the braid is formed by the extreme cross-over of the cords.
